After drawing a large crowds for two weeks, one of the most
popular event of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO),
the India International Trade Fair 2011 drew to a close with
presentation of the Awards for Excellence in displays at
Shakuntalam Theatre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, today. Shri
Rahul Khullar, Commerce Secretary, Government of India presented
the Awards to the winners.
The Award presentation ceremony was presided over by Shri Rajeev
Kher, Chairman and Managing Director, ITPO. Present on the
occasion were Shri Neeraj Kumar Gupta, Executive Director, ITPO,
members of Diplomatic Corp, participants from India and overseas
and media persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rahul Khullar complimented ITPO
for holding the 31st edition of the IITF on such a scale and
choosing its theme ‘ Indian Handicraft: the Magic of the Gifted
Hands’. He pointed out that the theme touched heart of millions
of the rural and semi – urban artisans, whose livelihood mainly
depends on their genius of creations. He said that with improved
and enhanced facilities, the fair has remained successful in
various ways. Mentioning about some new innovations displayed at
the fair, such as ‘ Zero Energy Cooling Technology”, Low Cost
Energy – Efficient Housing and several others , he said that
IITF has evolved over the years as a major business event,
focusing both on business and consumers.
Awards
were given away to the winner participants in different
categories. In the Foreign pavilion category, South Africa
bagged the Gold trophy. In States category Kerala received the
Gold while Madhya Pradesh got the Silver trophy and Chandigarh
received the Gold trophy in the Union Territories sectors.
Nagaland won the Gold trophy in the North Eastern State
category.
The Ministry of Textile and Development Commissioner of
Handicrafts jointly bagged the Gold trophy for the theme
pavilion in the Government Departments category. In the
Government Department category, Income Tax Department won the
Silver trophy.
In Public Sector Undertakings, EPCS, Commodity Boards and Banks
category, National Mission on Bamboo Application, Punjab
National Bank and Coir Board received the Gold, Silver and
Bronze trophies, respectively. In the Private Sector category,
Nivea India Pvt. Ltd. won the Gold while Westinghouse received
the Silver trophy. Mementos and Certificates were also presented
to the Partner States (Jharkhand & West Bengal) and Focus States
(Bihar & Orrisa).
The panel of the Jury comprised of eminent personalities
including Dr. Ruchira Ghose, Chairperson, Craft Museum, Shri
Nitin Rai, Photographer, Shri P.R. Daroz, renowned Ceramic
Artist, Shri Piyush Prakash , Senior Architect , Mr. Sandip
Kumar, Lecturer, School of Planning & Architecture and Shri Aziz
Qureshi, writer, Broadcaster, Theatre & Television personality.
Mementos were also presented to the Central Reserve Police Force
(CRPF) and Central Industrial Security Force(CISF) for the ‘Best
Band Display’. Their performance outside Shakuntalam Theatre of
“Ye Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka” enthralled the visitors.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Shri Rajeev Kher , CMD, ITPO
pointed out that massive crowds at IITF 2011 are a testimony to
its popularity. He said that the fair has attracted 6000
participants including several from abroad comprising 75 from
Pakistan, 59 from Thailand, 29 from Bangladesh and also several
other countries . He informed that ITPOs new initiatives such as
online allocation of the space, improvement logistics , face
book access of the for IT-savvy young generation and regular
media briefings were introduced this year. He hoped that next
addition of the fair would be with more innovations for
convenience of the visitors.
In his ‘Vote of Thanks’ on the occasion, Shri Neeraj Kumar
Gupta, ED, ITPO underlined the role of Ministry of the Union
Government and Union Territory Governments various service
agencies of Delhi Government in supporting ITPO. He specially
thanked Delhi Police , Traffic Police, CISF, CRPF, MCD, BSES,
print and electronic media and other supporting agencies for
making the fair a resounding success. |
