recently recoganised the big achievers in hospitality, travel & tourism
field at their award felicitation fuction held at Leela Kempinski,
Gurgaion on 28th January 2010. Mr. S.K. Misra was conferred with Living Legend Award.
Mr. S. K. Misra is the Chairman of INTACH, the Indian National Trust for
Art and Cultural Heritage, which he joined after retiring from the
Government of India. During his government career, he was recognized for
the establishment and development of numerous innovative and pioneering
institutions. At INTACH, which he serves in a voluntary capacity, he has
strengthened and expanded the entire organization, and led it to a
position of international, as well as national prominence and influence.
Mr. Misra, a 1956 batch IAS officer, served in numerous positions
including Secretary of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Secretary of
Agriculture, and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. He
served for six years as Member, UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). He
is also credited with creating the concept of `Highway Tourism' in Haryana
and developing Suraj Kund Crafts Mela. As Secretary of Tourism and Civil
Aviation, he developed strong new partnerships between government and
industry, and was instrumental in convincing the government to open the
Indian skies to private airlines. His interest in tourism continues at
INTACH, where he established a heritage tourism division, and has worked
to integrate heritage and tourism concerns. He has received number of
awards, including the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India. |
